An Environmental Assessment (EA) provides:
- An objective
- A confidential review of current farm operations
- Identifies any potential environmental issues; and
- Suggests possible remedies that the farm operator can implement.
The CLEANEast Program provides confidential, on-site environmental assessments.
For an EA, the Technical Assistance Professional (TAP) conducts an on-site farm visit to meet with farm operator and to collect information about and observe the farm’s livestock and crop operations. The TAP uses the information collected to prepare a farm-specific EA report for the farm operator’s use. Two EA tools have been developed specifically for the CLEANEast Program:
- The Farm Operation Introductory Profile; and
- The On-Site Environmental Assessment Tool
The Farm Operation Introductory Profile is completed by the FO to provide background information about the farm, such as the number and types of animals, and land application practices.
The On-Site Environmental Assessment Tool is used by the TAP during the on-site visit to evaluate any potential environment issues. Confidentiality of the farm-specific information collected using these EA tools is maintained at all times.
